Got off work early today so I drove the Bus up to my closest VW shop to restock my spare parts kit and get a sending unit for the oil pressure gauge I got. I took the back roads and took advantage of the thin traffic and got this picture.
Driving my Bus always brings me a bit of sanity no matter what is going on.

Changed all fuel lines in both of my buses.
Also add a tach to double cab. Then test drive that’s it.

Pulled the motor on the 13w and put a new input shaft seal on the tranny. It had developed a *slight* leak recently. Lol.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The previous seal had departed this world, leaving only the outer ring , inner ring and spring had to be retrieved from up in tranny with long skinny needle nose pliers. Not sure if the pics below really capture the extent of leakage, but it was like having no seal at all.

After reinstalling and a 30 mile run down the freeway at 60 mph, no leakage.....yet.

Hey guys

Figured it was a good time to start the SA van that I have had under a cover at the front of the house for a few years.

I started it last year & removed a few panels & had it shot blasted.

It was a struggle to work on it on the drive so purchased a pop up garage & squeezed into the rear garden when we were hit by hte lock down.

any way I hope this link to the gallery works & ill add photos as I go.

Picture heavy

Nice too see everyone's updates!
I've finally placed my Blaupunkt in my bus.
Had it already for years, but I didn't have the narrow faceplate/ front yet.

On it, basically an engine rebuild and get it back to driver status. However, there’s another one that will require some serious work to bring back to life! Shocked

I’m sure to need help on both as far as “what, where & how” parts, process and such. Should start a thread on them as they don’t belong here. Cool

Speakin' of radio installs during the pandemic lock-down, I tore into the front cab of my SO-42 to get everything back to stock or close to it. I removed an old aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo with four speakers that I installed way back in 1985 and finally installed a hard to find correct 1967 Bendix Sapphire VI AM/FM monaural radio in the dash (thanks Corey!!!)

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

While in there I finally installed a dense charcoal colored speaker screen. Hell! I even sell 'em in the classifieds and have them installed on other Buses, but so far I had failed to get one into this Camper, so it was time! Hides everything behind the dash.

I had been having minor issues with my front cab door locks and mechanisms for many years and knew it was just a matter of a clean-up and re-lubrication task in front of me. So I tore into each door shell and removed EVERYTHING.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Inner door handles, inner remote mechanisms, connecting rods, the door lock mechanisms and door handles. Everything came out of the door shell for some attention! Sure enough everything was dirty, in need of cleaning, removal of old dry grease, undercoating overspray, you name it, they were gunked up! I was prepared and even had a new NOS pair of L & R side door lock mechanisms on standby on the workbench. Below, NOS on the left, and original dry and dirty on the right before a bath and cleanup:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After a a long soak in a tank of kerosene, both original mechanisms cleaned up nicely. I squished fresh pink wheel bearing grease into all of the operation levers and bushings, all the nooks and crannies of the mechanisms and worked it in good. I ended up re-using my original lock mechanisms as they weren't badly worn and were now operating beautifully as designed. Same thing with the outer door handles, a thorough clean up and then new, fresh grease. Upon reassembly everything now works, locks, latches, and functions perfectly again. It took a bunch of time but was long overdue and well worth the effort!

One thing turned into another so I also removed my homemade front cab door, kick and ceiling velour-covered Masonite panels from 1984 and installed a set of Clara's beautiful grey commercial/camper panels. In the photo below some of the right side "Clara" panels are in!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also went through the forward wiring harness to improve any previous wiring hacks, remove that unsightly blue plastic crimp-on connector ends with the original serious German crimp-on connectors now that I have the correct tool and a box full of assorted crimp-on connectors. Much, much better now!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.
\

And while I was contorting my 60+ year old body under that dashboard, it was finally time to remove the INOP original speedometer and swap in the fully restored gorgeous date code correct unit that Corona Ryan built for me when mine failed last Sept during a 2,300 mile road trip from Phoenix and Vegas back to Missouri. Here is the original speedo before removal:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

...and here is the O.E.S. refreshed unit in dash:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So out came the original with 163K miles on it and the Bus (gotta send that back as a core to Ryan!) and then I installed and wired up his masterpiece.

My real triumph was more frustrating. This was my first VW Bus bought back in 1984 out in San Jose, CA, and it's 4-way emergency flasher unit never worked since before I bought it in 1984. Turn signals worked fine, but the 4-way flashers were a definite no-go. After cleaning up the wiring, lots of circuit trouble-shooting (thanks Matt Roberds) still a no-go. Damn! So I finally removed and replaced the 9-pin relay with one of my many spare used relays I had and WHAM! I now have 4-way flashers for the first time! Ah! The these little victory's are GREAT!

Looks fairly normal here:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

But once removed and opened up for our viewing pleasure:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Looks like at some point in this relays life it went for a swim. No wonder the 4-way flashers never worked:

Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Having a ball in my man cave!
