Ok some of the younger boys and girls probably don’t remember Tom Laughlin as Billy Jack the half Indian Green Beret pacifist. This is his 1st movie from 1967
“Born Losers” look real close to see early bus and green oval. Movie opens with bikers kicking the shit out of a guy driving a blue bug including breaking his window with helmet. This movie launched the Billy Jack sequels to follow. Lots of girls wearing bikinis too. I recommend this one.
Look close the green oval is between the two bikes, ck that bus |

Now this one is definitely worth watching. 1971 Kris Kristofferson in his first movie debut entitled “Cisco Pike” along with Karen Black, Gene Hackman and Harry Dean Stanton. Shot on location in Venice California and almost a VW in every street scene.
Crooked cop Gene Hackman has Cisco selling 40 keys of weed. It doesn’t go well but this is another one I enjoyed and Karen even takes her shirt off in this one. Karen was in many films from the 70s. She played Rayleene in “Five Easy Pieces” with Jack Nicholson. Anyway watch this classic.
This is how weed looked back then it was full of stems and seeds and pressed into bricks of 1 kilo. It was wetted with something sometimes Coca Cola to act as a binder help it stick together. Often smelled bad because it was smuggled up out of Mexico in cattle haulers.
Nice early bus huh?
Some of those pics show visible smog and yes it really did look just like that I’ve seen with my own eyes when I lived there. Really nice shots of Venice some may even recognize certain stores and businesses. |

VW parts store in TV show "Monk"- Mr Monk takes the Stand (from 2009, Season 8, episode 5). The consulting detective Adrian Monk (actor Tony Shalhoub), his assistant Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) and police detective Randy Disher (Jason-Gray Stanford) go to a foreign car parts store to look for a specific taillamp bulb. The store has many VW parts such as a pre-'68 Beetle front bumper, 4-bolt steel wheel, headers, front axle beam, fan shroud. You also see a Beetle poster behind Monk, and a VW event poster "Volksfest '98" (from Norway?!) at the counter.
IMDB shows the location as E & C Auto Parts on Reseda Boulevard, Reseda, California (San Fernando Valley). Looking at GoogleMaps, the location is no longer a car parts store.
Tony Shalhoub was the voice of Luigi, the small yellow Fiat 500 and tire store owner in the animated movie "Cars" (2006).

Ghia Coupe in final chase of "Gone in 60 Seconds" (1974). This movie has been mentioned several times before in this thread. Not long into the final, tremendously exciting car chase at the end of the movie, main character Maindrian Pace is driving the '73 yellow Mustang "Eleanor". He approaches this parked Ghia coupe. Neither he nor his pursuers hit it. The Mustang is barely visible in the background. Ghia would be a '70 or '71 due to the separate headrests and the medium-large taillamps. Research shows the Mustang is actually a '71, modified for the movie to look like a '73.

Almost Famous, 2000. Lots of VWs in the movie. Here we see a Porsche 356 and a Type 3 Karmann Ghia on the streets of San Diego. OB?
