Been a while since I have removed mine, I seem to recall rotating to the right and pulling it off.
Here is another answer [https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=615180&highlight=rear+view+mirror

If I recall correctly you have to push it up toward the sky to get it to pop out. It’s in there pretty tight. I did my windshield frame just year and I remember being surprised by how much force it took to pop out. |

This is how I recall too. And I won't do it again until I have to. You really feel like you're about to break the WS before it cuts loose! The installer of those mirrors in Mexico was one BMF. _________________

I got it off this morning, pushed up on the mount and twisted to the right and it came off took some effort for sure. Thanks for all the help. Haven't put it back on yet hope it isn't as hard lol. |

I cannot get mine off.
Are the correct instructions push up then turn a 1/4 clockwise then out? |

It is really stiff so I used both hands hold the post part that is holding the mirror twist to the right with one hand and push in with the other hand on the mount part good luck. |
