That looks like a '67 crank pulley tin. I had to get a '68's and cut it down on the left side to make it look like yours

Does anyone know what a ‘67 behind crank pulley tin looks like? A bunch of dead photos links going on in here and I can’t seem to find a picture. My motor a hodgepodge of tin and the behind the crank pulley tin does not match up with the original ‘67 apron tin/breastplate (whatever you call it)

Here you go the top one in the image is to the rear of the crank pulley, as in closer to the rear bumper. Plus VW lists this as the rear in the dealer parts manuals:

If you mean the pulley tin that is mounted just in front of the crankshaft pulley:

This is a great picture showing the different pulley tins but does it come with a decoder ring?

Not that we have been able to find. You might try the later VW dealer parts manual here:

http://www.oacdp.org/

Available for now thru the "Upcoming" button at the top.

I came back to this post because I have some other tin questions. The parts manual is of good source but it kinda is hard to understand when it comes to tin because I don't know what the parts looked like that matches to these numbers. Its confusing.

according to the parts manual the "in front" of crank pulley tin is used in '66 F0 -'70 B5 engines (sound correct?) But when I match up a (known) '67 "in front" of crank pulley tin it doesn't fit a '66 breastplate.

Notice the nice tight fit between the rear breastplate and in front crank pulley tin. It fits great

Maybe I'm reading the parts manual wrong but doesn't it say the in front crank pulley tin in a '66 is the same as a '67? Notice how large the gap is. Does '66 have its own '66 only in front crank pulley tin?

There were some oddball VWs sold over in Europe, like a Standard Beetle with fresh air 36 HP engine, or 1200cc engine that was built on the 1500/1600 engine case, both items up into the early to mid 1970s.

Might be you needed to look at the rated HP on that point. The parts manual usually does show that.

Front of pulley and the rear engine tin piece are for over here in N. America are pre-1968 items. Front of pulley is same shape from 1961-67, only change was cut out or no cut out for road downdraft tube. Rear tin changed when VW went to the 50mm preheat tube for the carb air cleaner.

If this is true then why won’t it fit the ‘66 breastplate like in the photos?

Looks like one or the other or both are bent up, at the center lowest part.

I assure you they’re not. I can get better pics tomorrow.
