I was told they were the hardest Vanagon part to find. Dave’s link looks helpful. I found one here in the parts for sale section after a few weeks. Call around some of the parts shops that have pick and pull yards. Johns car corner in Westminster Vermont, Vanagain in South Jersey, Go Westy, or your local salvage yard.
Also, make a wanted post in the parts section here. I got mine from a samba member who seems to have lots of parts vans. I’ll pm you his details later today

they are all the same
they are a hard part for those scrapping a van
no one really needs any of them, untill that 1 person does
they aren't that easy to remove and more of a pain to ship. as it's a long solid rod with a flexi cable attached. IMO a piss poor design, where a regular Morse style (marine control) cable would work just fine.
which is always an option to have a custom cable made. but those are a few $$ a foot too. where the VAG saved $ on cheaping out.

Gonna try out a marine place local to me in Norcal, and mark has a part that will work for me. If anyones in cali and has one, id love to come pick up a factory part before modifying this van, as im trying to sell it not keep it!
Thanks again for all the input guys! _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Hello, I've installed a rebuilt watterboxer automatic transmission in my '83 air cooled Vanagon with a 2.5 Subaru engine. I lost the nut that holds the selector bracket to the transmission. This is the nut for the shaft that has 2 flat sides coming out of the right side and is for the kickdown bracket. I can't seem to get anything to fit. It maybe buggered up. I don't know the thread size to retap. any help would be greatly appreciated. Also what type of washers or spacers go behind the bracket?
Thanks Gary |

They are not the same...the air cooled cable is shorter than the waterboxer automatic cable by about 2". Parts numbers are the same but they are not.

Not sure if this will help as I was just replacing my cable and got an Air cooled one first that was two inches short. The spacer was on the passengers side bolt hole only and maybe 3mm thick or at least as thick as the bracket it was mounted too.
Bolts M10 x 25, M10 x 30

Post a picture. I’ll check the part number for you. I might have a used one, but it’s part of a good case and hate to rob it. There is a vw recycler place in Michigan. Might be worth reaching out to them. He is a member here. Recycle Jack comes to mind. _________________ ☮️ |

I don't have that nut on the case. Both the relay lever and selector lever are retained by that nut.
I checked ETKA part number is N 011 137 1
10mm x 1.0 pitch is not a common nut for VW's but should be able to be purchased locally I would think.
Common to VW is 10 mm x 1.5 pitch. Common to Japanese vehicles is 10mm x 1.25. Neither will work for you. _________________ ☮️ |

Can someone tell me if part number 23 in the attached drawing is just a plain washer or something special? The boot item 22 is available at Vancafe. A 4mm circlip fits as item 24. I am missing 23.

23 is just a washer to keep the clip from getting messed up on the eyelet. _________________
