This is what I have in the buggy, wanting to go to a 12"-13". I want to retain the turn stalk and wiper stalk but need to have the wheel away so I don't hit it with my fingers. It's a 1974 column, small shaft, but I can't figure out which adaptor to use. I will probably go with a Grant Wheel and adaptor. The other wheel I have is a Volante and it's a little rough. Only four years into the project, no need to hurry now.
Cheers! |

Small shaft... watercooled VW adapter will fit.
I had a Momo wheel on my Passat and removed it when i sold the car. For kicks, I put it on my 74 Beetle, but put the original one back.

I run a 13 inch Grant on original steering shaft and with Grant adapter....

I guess I am wondering about the dish depth. I would like to run a flat wheel but would need a spacer to do that. I'm not sure how to measure the stock wheel to find out the dish depth. Thanks in advance. |

Decided on a 12" Grant. Clears the turn signal arm and not too hard to steer.
Now to the junk shifter...…. |

Looks to be same wheel as I have on my buggy....
Junk shifter?.... Don't think so, I have same BUGPACK one and its been good for almost 19 years now.... Only issue is set screw that holds top handle to shaft came loose once.... Would bet shifting problem is more from how shift rod was shortened and realigned...

Dale, it shifts fine, set screw wont stay tight, even with blue Locktite. I think the threads in the handle must have been slightly stripped at one time. Going to put it one the bench and see about chasing the threads or re-tapping next size up. I'm not saying the Bugpack shifter is junk, I like the look and it's the right length, just having a bit of trouble with the set screw.
Cheers. |

If you are using a Grant 3 bolt wheel you can buy spacers from 1/2 inch to 2 inch to move the steering wheel back. Here is an example from Speedway Motors. There are also adapters available to go from Grant 3 bolt adapters to Grant 5 bolt steering wheels. Those 2 bolt patterns have been used by a lot of other steering wheel makers. _________________
