|
|
A recent thread has caused me to second guess my alternators alignment. My alternator pulley appears to be cocked inwards to me. I put a straight edge on the pulley face and it’s definitely not parallel to the fan face. To fix this it looks like I would need to push the outside of the alternator in (the side closest to the battery). How exactly would I do this as I don’t remember any adjustment that would allow it to be tweaked in that way.
I don’t think this pic will help but here goes.

check the bracket to see if it is broken where it bolts to the case / shoud at the top or bottom. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

If you are talking about the U bracket, it is not broken.
You may be able to see the bracket in this pic (upper middle):

I had that problem before also. The U bracket can be bent or even shimmed under one of the 2 bolts that hold it to the fan housing to correct alternator pulley alignment. Be sure to sand away your paint or powder coating on both the bracket and the fan housing where the pieces meet, as this is the electrical ground for your alternator. You also need a clean joint between the fan housing and the engine case.
You may already know that but it’s easy to forget;) |

Nope I don’t know that. Thanks, I’ll give your suggestions a try. _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

there is more than one bracket holding the alternator _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
