We've got a place about 35 or so miles west of us in a little place called Innsbrook where we have a recreational chalet which is a 2 dollar term for an A-frame cabin in the woods. We roll around out there on the gravel roads fishing the lakes and having a great time. You can see my pole racks on the top with a couple poles in them, they're in place with neodymium magnets and work great. So I drove the bug out there this past weekend and they had a nice outdoor concert Sat night that I drove right up to and the band was actually pretty darn good. We rolled around all weekend out there fishing lake to lake and I drove it back home for some minor work and adjustments since this was the first time out after overhaul of the engine and all of the suspension, frame, brake, steering and everything else I did. I must have got the rear alignment close as my new tires still have the nibs all over them. One thing's for sure, I let all of the smoke out of that exhaust wrap, I kept smelling something like rubber and I thought I was loosing the belt but it was that stuff burning off. It seems to have turned somewhat "crispy" but it appears that's what it's supposed to do so we'll see how it goes.

Couldn't have asked for better weather around here over the weekend.
Curious why you're wrapping your exhaust in a rail buggy. I did it to my beetle many years ago to help with heat in the engine bay, but other than that, is there a point? _________________ -74 Standard - "CaliBug" 2084T, MS3X w/FI and Crank Fire

To increase the looks cool factor by 6.78%. That and it looks better than rusty old exhaust and I don't believe it'll lead to rust either. That stuff dries out in minutes if that long when it gets wet. |

Its not the rust from header wrap that kills your header, its the heat. It holds in so much heat it will cook the carbon out of mild steel tubing and the tube cracks and falls apart, it is best to use it on stainless tubing.

Looks like a lot of fun and good weather too!! Yeah, I wrapped the headers on my Ford V6 powered rail for the "cool factor" too. I went for the bright red wrap for extra "coolness" and even paid extra for it so my cool factor went up to at least 18%! That is...until I ran it the first time. Then it burned all of the red dye out so now it's just bland tan! lol. |

and then you got the bumping into it factor, including the random kid bumping into it. _________________ 73 Beetle Baja, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 2220 ( 94 X 80 ), Weber Progressive, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

I installed a bid red plasma cut sign to hopefully ward off errant touchers and to keep the kids away. So far it's done it's job so there's that. The triple mufflers keep things nice and quiet. Probably why I'm so alert to all of the engine ticks and tocks too but so far so quiet after the overhaul.
