It really is. I'm amazed at how well it picks up with such large ITBs.
In other news, turns out I was only getting 70% or so of throttle.
I've 'redesigned' my pulley to ensure I get maximum pull, also, it's now elliptical to give finer resolution at low throttle openings and wang it right open up top.
I'll get that bolted up this morning and see if I've completely messed that up _________________ 2276 Beetle build https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=670744&highlight=2276+beetle+daily

Loving the awesome weather and quiet lockdown roads we've had.
Still driving well, lots of progress on the tune.
Throttle linkage is working better, getting full pull now but one side is hanging slightly on the way down sometimes...
New shocks should be here today (Gaz adjustable) so will change the oi/filterl, fit some new silicone rocker gaskets and the shocks and see how that handles.
Really ought to get the passenger seat fitted too

This ^^^^^^.
At least you got the opportunity to drive it before.......
The possible rod bearing went tits up!
I lost a rod bearing 19.43 minutes/seconds into the cam break-in on a fresh 1600 SP recently.
That took the wind out of my sails! _________________ I have learned over the years.

Damn yeah I remember reading the updates on your thread.
Bizarre really, done maybe 1000 km on this engine. Odd to have not lost the rod nearer the start when I had loads of issues with the MS side of things. _________________ 2276 Beetle build https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=670744&highlight=2276+beetle+daily

They're the Mofoco heads although I don't feel that is particularly pertinent, I had them ported (details earlier in the thread) and new guides fitted then.
The guy that did the work has them back and is fixing it.
The piston I'll clean up and will hopefully go again.

Inlet
Would it even be possible for an exhaust guide to make it back into the chamber? _________________ 2276 Beetle build https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=670744&highlight=2276+beetle+daily

Yes high vacuum decel at overlap can suck parts back in. Never happened to me but I have heard of it happening. Has the intake guide come loose? Never liked what dual springs does for intake guide retention. Dan

This is why I never remove guides unless absolutely necessary.
Sorry about your failure.
Something wasn't happy in the valve trane for sure.
Do you have anymore failure analysis?
Did the guide migrate down? Or did it just fall apart?
Never seen an intake guide fall apart like that.
I have seen them move and swedge onto the valve.
Valve float is usually the culprit. A valve floats, hits the top of the guide pounding downward into the valve. Grabbed the valve and then things start to come apart.
Good excuse for shortened guides.
I blame the 86B cam..
LOL..
I really don't like that cam... |
