In anctipation of getting the new fuel tank I ordered to finish my manx clone, I'm looking for some info on how to wire up my fuel sender & fuel gage. It certainly doesn't seem intuitive to me.
First off, the fuel sender I have is essentially identical to JBugs part # 113919049D with a single terminal on top. It's supposed to read 73 Ohms empty tank to 10 Ohms full. I assume a wire runs from that single terminal to my fuel gage & I should also attach a ground wire to one of the 5 screws that mount it to ground the tank & sender for safety reasons.
Secondly, I have VDO fuel gage, JBugs part number: V301020 to fit my dash. I see that the top of the gage has 2 terminals for the light bulb. I assume it needs 12V power to one side & ground to the other to make the light bulb illuminate. The lower part of the gage has 3 terminals... One labeled "+", one labeled "-", and the third labeled "S".
Is it as simple as 12V power to +, a ground to -, and connecting the 73-10 Ohm lead from the sender to terminal S? I want to be sure as I'm hoping finalizing my new fuel tank means this is last time the buggy hood has to come on/off. |

Thanks guys -
Looks like the link to the pdf from VDO was just what I needed! I quick look at their diagrams & instructions confirmed that what I had proposed in my original post was correct. It looks like "Diagram E' answered my question.
I don't recall that any instructions were included with the VDO gage when I purchased it. If there was, I've lost that paperwork over the last few years. |

The screws on the sender will not be grounded with your fiberglass body. You need to run a ground from the sender to a good chassis ground. |
