|
|
Hey guys,
So when I bought my carbs the manifolds had been drilled and tapped then 2 barbs put in so that the 2 manifolds can be connected together with a balance pipe.
Now my engine seems to idle okay then when its warm and the balance pipe goes soft it tends to squash in (almost acting like a valve) and then the idle raises.
So i am wondering, would I be better off just blocking up the ports and doing away with the balance pipe or should I replace it with soothing more substantial that can take the heat/pressure?
Carbs are ICT34
I haven't seen this done before and not sure if its a good idea to have it on or not.

Hi, I would get a stiffer/thicker piece of hose , even the clothe braided fuel line works, depending on the size of the barb ftgs. You will have a better idle with this tube installed. you could install a metal tube between the carbs and the use small pieces of hose to connect the two.. I have a set of "baby" dell FRD's, and have a piece of thick wall v8 fuel hose in the mix...NO problems... |

If the hose closes compleatly that will change idle fuel mixture and effect the idle. I would find a stiffer hose and adjust the fuel mixture to match that. VW on their dual carb engines used a steel tube that could not colapse under vacume.

Soft copper tubing from hardware store, or aluminum "natural gas" line.... Does not have to be steel....

Most FLAPS sell brake vacuum booster supply hose in 1/2", it's wire reinforced so it doesn't collapse. Hydraulic hose also has a wire in it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I was wondering about making a balancing pipe out of metal and was thinking of using a piece of copper which I see from this thread is recommended but wondering how do you place it on the engine? Do you let it just sit on top of the engine itself or mount it? Thanks
Oh and I adjusted the Speed Screw in until it contacted the throttle lever and turn it in 1 ˝ turns. _________________ Looking for Groovy Bumper Stickers? Check out my Ads!

So after having some other problems with it cranking I fixed I'm back to the carburetors which I installed a piece of copper tubing to use as the balancing tube.
And now that I started it for the first time it seems to be backfiring out one of the carbs, like the timing was incorrect, which I double checked and have set to 7 1/2 degrees BTDC with a 009 distributor. And I have adjusted the initial mixture screws two turns out. Hmm? What else should I be doing? Thanks again. _________________ Looking for Groovy Bumper Stickers? Check out my Ads! |

Back when I had ICT carbs on my rail buggy I had a crossover that I could shut off and turn on manually from the drivers seat. I honestly noted no difference in performance or air fuel ratio on my wideband.
The only thing that changed was the idle speed _________________ 1970 Turbo Baja Bug Turbaja 2165 t3/t4 Speeduino sequential EFI LS3 coil on plug ignition

Yeah I "think" I have the balancing tube figured it out as I'm just trying to get it to idle right without it backfiring and stalling and wondering now since these carbs don't have chokes if I need a block off plate on them?
Which look like this one

Just setting the idle mixture screws at 2 turns is not enough.
You must adjust each one for best/smoothest idle.
If you have popping on one carb, that means it's running lean. The mixture screw needs backed out some.
Read up on how to adjust an idle mixture screw.. it's the same for ALL engines with carburetors. |

Has any body ever tried cutting a slot between ports on DP intakes like VW did on late model DP housing ends to see if it helps idle?
