I think that all the Eurovan Westfalias came with the roof hinge pictured below, but I am not positive, can some of the Eurovan owners chime in and confirm or refute my thoughts?

Don't forget that there were several years of Eurovans with Winnebago conversions, and I'd suspect that their hinges may be at least slightly different.

Well, I can say that I could use a strut kit Wink

Mine has the 1993 style lever without struts. Has the big folding lever thing.

The newer 1999-2003 Westfalias and the Winnebagos had gas struts on them already.

I've been thinking of converting mine to the later style with stronger struts for my roof box.

So, I'm curious what your kit would be for? Just stronger struts for vans that came with them or a strut conversion for the 1993 Westfalias that didn't? If the later, how would it be better than just using the factory parts to update to the new style?

Ah, yes, I was using the term "Westfalia" specifically, but many people do use it generically to refer to any brand of camper van. The hinges on the winne's are different.

My kit would primarily be for the early vans that didn't come with struts, but my kit could certainly be added to a newer van that already has struts from the factory.

Adding the factory struts to an older van requires drilling into the van, where my kit will require no drilling so the instal can't really get any easier. Also I don't think that the factory struts are all that available separately. I've gotten lots of e-mail about EV strut kits over the years and mentioned the later year struts but I'm not sure anyone has gone that route.

Way back when I designed the Vanagon kit people were pretty interested in minimizing the number of holes they had to drill in their van, the Vanagon set-up results in the necessity to drill one hole either side of the van, not bad really, but the EV hinge allows the entire kit to be mounted with a 10mm socket and a 5mm allen wrench.

Because of the shape of the EV Westy roof and where the force of the strut pushes I'm not all that comfortable with HD struts mounted to the hinge, but I will be able to check this out some more early next week.

With standard struts and an unloaded roof the pop top operation is perfect, it will stay in any position you let go of it which makes it great for reaching in and pulling in the tent before you close the roof the last few inches.

You all seem to be knowledgeable. I'm looking for Pop-Top Hinges for a 1995 Eurovan Camper. Would love any help. What other years could I use? Where can I find them? Thanks.
