Mr Craine

Give me a little more info on the cover and I'll look in my car and get the part number.

Just not sure what you are looking for.

My parts book only has the "B" listed and states:
"Lining under instrument panel to Ch. No. 310 2500 000"
Which would seem to indicate it doesn't go on your '71. There are no later versions of this part listed.

this is the black hard plastic cover for Fresh Air Box unit under the dashboard, just right under those (2) fresh air vents, close to the firewall.
most T3's seldom have this thing.

Thanks,

OK, thread resurrection here ! Like 12 years dead !!

So this part 311 863 103B - One came loose in my car (along with 3 broken dashboards, 2 steering columns, plus various other bits), but it was not fitted.

Where does it fit under the dashboard ? Any photo of one in place ? What does it do ?

Any help appreciated.

I thought I had a pic posted but I couldn't find it

It goes sort of up under the dash in the middle, to cover the 2 drain hoses there.
It's just cosmetic.

Parts book, it's #6 here, shown above the carpet and also off to the side with #7 and #8:

Early ones were cardboard, while later ones were plastic.

Correct and the very early ones were grey cardboard.

"Early ones were cardboard, while later ones were plastic."

"Correct and the very early ones were grey cardboard."

And, despite all your kind help, there is no way that the one I have will fit on my car !! The curves and cut outs are all in the wrong place to fit over that fold in the metal down there. I can screw it in there, but it doesn't fit right.........So unless someone actually has a photo of one installed.......Or maybe it never did fit very well ? There are certainly no old screw holes to infer that my car was ever fitted with that piece originally. Does look nice down there though !!

Anyway, it is all nice new carpet down there. I got RHD carpets from TMI (via our local supplier in Queensland, to make sure I got the correct RHD ones) and when I was trial fitting them a few weeks ago, found that all were RHD (ie the cut outs for the pedals and inbuilt plastic mat for your feet) were both on the correct / right side ( Laughing ), but the little piece of carpet that fits up on the front firewall which has cutouts for the 2 rain water hoses and the steering column was a LHD piece !!! Grrrr. Luckily TMI air couriered the correct piece to Mick Motors immediately Smile

Anyway, work continues..........

I haven't heard of that piece being different for RHD. But I suppose it's possible, or maybe just wasn't used.
Sucks that your RHD supplier didn't double check that the carpet wasn't for a RHD car. Wink

Giles-

Here are a few quick shots of where the under dash hose cover was mounted in my 1970 Fastback. I hope these help. I'm not sure if those are the correct screws, but they fit and allowed me to take the photo.

Aha - Good photos, FastyOrange. I thought they covered the hoses at the bottom, but in your photos the hoses are still sticking out below the plastic cover.
I just tried a trial fit, and it will go there, although the shaped sides don't seem to conform to any of the metal panels it covers !! And your measurements also help. I will wait till my carpet is in and then find the best place for it, I think !
Thanks again,
Giles

The cover I have was mounted lower than that I believe. I'll go out to our Boneyard and try to take pics of its screw holes.
