Hi,
I need to unbolt at drop this arm to remove a gearbox shaft.
What will happen if I unbolt it, the van is currently on axle stands.
Do I need to support anything?

it should be fine the weight of the wheel pivots on it but is held in place sort of by the spring plate, shock and axle.
why not undo the front transmission mount and lower the transmission a little 'carefully'.

I spy with my little eye a radiator and 010 automatic.. *nice.. Drool

I agree, lowering the front end of the transaxle would be the way to go. There are a lot of hose, wires, and such that connect between the engine and the body that will limit how much of a drop you can do, but you should be able to drop the nose of the transaxle several inches without having to disconnect much.

I did consider dropping the trans a bit but didn't want to (didn't know how much it might) stress anything.

With 2 options I'll see which is easiest tomorrow for access, if the trans drops without problem that will probably be easier to get to. I assume it would need support.

Yes Subaru auto, 010 (or 090 I can't decide even though I built it, both pretty similar.) Was originally 003 so little bit more went into it but I'm happier with a later box, more spares etc. My 1800 blew up so justified the upgrade.

What I'm doing here is fixing an annoying leak which I'll write up next week.

Thank you as always for replies,
Pg
