I know this topic has no doubt been a popular topic on here, but I just wanted to know the best cosmetic approach to repair this anchor plates. The one shown is the passenger side near the door post. The photo from below I inserted an awl to point out better where the anchor nut is.

It appears that a lot of the sheet metal on top either has vanished or it was never there.

My thoughts were to first figure out what size bolt goes into the anchor, then run a tap thru it to clean out the threads. It appears there may even be some sort of insert all ready there.

What's the correct tap size?

I'm thinking about filling / welding in the area on top with a similar gauge of
metal with only the anchor hole exposed.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff in Iowa

All the items you suggested are good. The hole is SAE but I don't know size. There is an adapter insert but yours looks sound. Trim clean and weld your top like you said with the hole.

Thanks Barry,

Still not sure why so much of the top plate had vanished. Perhaps it was made like this originally.

Thanks again
Jeff

They are SAE? Interesting... because they are dealer installed?

7/16"-20 NF is the seatbelt mount spec for most or all US sold cars. I guess it's to make it easier to retrofit or dealer-install belts.

You might have an adapter plug in there to go from a large metric size to 7/16.

Bruce,

I agree with this also, after close examination it does look like an adapter insert is in there also. Iíll no doubt have to drill it out and extract it. Driver side does not have the adapter.
thanks

Thanks for the link, Iíll order a couple of these to have them in hand before I start extracting old insert.

Take care
