I've been debating where to put the antenna on my deluxe.. left or right, head or tails.. probably doesn't matter.. but have a look at this photo. The antenna goes well with the design of the bus. Only problem is you'd have to drill an extra hole in the roof for the clip. And all you safari people.. the problem is already solved..

Any guess as to what type of antenna it is.. I'd guess and old Hirshman ?

Nice Photo. My Bus is still very much a project, but at one point a PO mounted an antenna in the same spot but lower, as there are two holes: one below the emblem and the other right near the "v" in the emblem. The remains of the mount at that location look to be some sort of eyelet bolt or fixture. Don't know what kind of antenna it was, though.

Both the dual mount and single mount antenna's are correct. The dealer would put on what ever he wanted and where ever he thought it should go.

My crewcab has the dual mount through the emblem. Wasn't sure about it at first but now like it. If I go safari's then its already in place

Go to a good stero shop and buy a hidden antenna. These usually mount up under the dash out of the way and seem to work very well. Then you wont have a problem with extra holes. If you do mount it on the outside mount it on the drivers side that way it will be out of the way of branches that line the sides of the streets on the passenger side just a thought.

Hi Staceyz,
See:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121666&highlight=antennia

The antennia you show could be a Bosch, Telefunken, or many others.

The double base antennia was a VOA item. Bugs and Buses used the same antennias.

remember, there is a slight factory crease the runs up the nose, begining about mid emblem, hard to repair it if you dont like the way it looks after you mounted the atanna...

Mine is not installed on the outside of the bus, but laying down behind the front kick panels. It works fine there...

I beg to differ. That particular set up, though cool looking and all, is right in the way of the "resting place" of the wiper blades when the safaris are open!?! Confused
