Wish you a speedy recovery.
All things being equal, I guess it's better that drunk hit you in your truck and not in your bug. That is THE thing I worry about when driving my bug. Not that's safest car around, and I'd cry if my car got smooshed.
I really like seeing your progress. It will a great bug when you're done! |

Hey Brother of the same name. I hope your recovery will go smoothly.
It is so unfortunate that this accident happened.
The Diamond looks like it's in good hands. And in the end hopefully, you'll be happy with the results.
As a bonus to your body man. You could have his shop repair your truck!
Too Soon?
Good Luck. I'll wait on the pics of the completed Diamond.
Take care and rest up while you have the time. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Update for 16 October. I haven’t posted any updates recently as not a lot has changed. I’ve stopped in weekly, but they’ve been doing a lot of sanding. Today, I took, the door screws, fender bolts and washers, along with some rubber seals and fender beading, to the body shop. The inside is painted, under the hood , and under the deck lid.
This is the true color Sea Blue. The following pictures did not come out right but the color is as you see it in this one.
These pictures made it look more bright blue
The outside of the car is still a white urethane primer. But two of his guys were masking it off and getting ready to roll it back in the paint booth.
On a side note, they tried for almost 3 hours to install the spring on the deck lid. I asked for a ratchet, and with them holding the deck lid I got the spring installed and deck lid readjusted in about 10 minutes. Then I went to work
They should be wrapping her up in the next 2 weeks I hope. It’ll be a nice birthday present to me if they do. I’m pretty sure I predicted 6 months to complete, even though Mike said 2. I will say, they have done a phenomenal job correcting bad prior bodywork, especially on the bottom of the deck lid.
The stiffener plate at the bottom inside of the deck lid had slag running from the deck lid out to the stiffener in a prior attempt by someone to weld up some rust holes. That’s all gone now and the skin of the deck lid looks like new, both outside and inside. I nearly cried when I saw that. That was by far the worst of the repairs they had to do. The floor is repaired as well, where I found a hole under the passenger tar board. _________________ My father's 1970 Beetle-
