First ever post, picking brains. New to me 73 Squareback.

I bought it a year ago, abouts, and I've had it restored (mostly.) I've pretty much just started driving it semi-regular in the last couple months and this I have noticed and it's kind of a bother.

My dome light works when the passenger door opens, but not the drivers door. That's super inconvenient, lol.

Is there a way to turn it on without opening the door? Like when I'm just sitting idling?

Sounds like the driver's doorjamb switch ist kaputt.
You should be able to turn it on or keep it off by rocking the lens front to back. All the way one way is on all the time, center is off, and the other way is on with the door jamb switches.

Before you monkey with the door jamb switch, remove the battery ground cable. You will almost certainly short the switch connectors on the hole in the metal door jamb when you try to remove it, making sparks and probably ruining the small connectors. It has power all the time to work the dome light.

Late switches also have contacts for the key buzzer, and those switches are damn hard to find today. You may not want the buzzer anyway, and so a passenger side or maybe a Bug door switch might work, though the connectors are different... a factory crimper and proper connectors can be had.

But maybe contact cleaner (plastic safe) may let yours work better.

Yeah, removed the switch and I think I have a switch that includes the buzzer. There are 4 prongs and two wires hooked up to a single prong on the top, and one wire hooked up to a prong on the opposite side (separated by a plastic flap) The prongs are super skinny. I thought I could swap out the switch from the passenger side and that one had one wire and the connector was wide and standard looking. I tried to include a pic, but I can't figure it out.
