If you consider the recent Cabriolet prices on BAT, I'd say the Blue 61 Vert has the potential to be at least a fair price. It would depend on details of the restoration. What a beautiful car. I'm no expert, but the body gaps appear to be very nice. The interior looks very high quality. It would be nice to see some pictures of the chassis and some pictures of the restoration of the body. _________________ Marc

Do you suppose that the seller realizes the "official" version of the Karmann Ghia Cabriolet wasn't even available in 1956?
...unless that one is the prototype, which would make it worth at least half of what the seller is asking for it. |

You would think there must be pictures of what the car looked like before the fresh primer?? That's what any buyer will want to see. Complete lack of any sort of information. ??? _________________ Marc

Maybe someone with knowledge of low lights can write to the seller and ask for the vin number or any extra pre primer photos. If there was no convertible for that year, then perhaps its a later body on an early pan. A vin would confirm at least the pan year, no?

It is a 56 front half because of the twist knobs for the heater and no fuel gage. It is a real 58-89 rear half convertible and windshield frame. It could be two things, a 56 coupe that was rear ended and converted to a 58-59 convertible or a 58-59 convertible that impacted something up front in a major way and had the 56 front end grafted in or lastly as Braukuche suggested it is a master turd. Only the VIN will tell. _________________ '58 Ghia 2387cc with a Berg / Folts 5 Speed

Typical Ghia subject to a horrible “restoration” by some shop that wouldn’t know a Ghia from a Kia And based on someone’s equally horrible personal taste. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Hmm, been on here for a while now, VIN comes up as a 59, but that’s obviously a 55-57 nose and the body badges look to be missing. Seller should be upfront about it.

Dan, I'm going to chime in and take up for the seller. He is a good guy. He is NOT one to mislead or take advantage of anyone. He acquired the Ghia and reason he is selling the '59 is another Ghia (56' coupe) came along that is much much nicer and he needs the space. The "Been on here a while now" is like what...two weeks?. Some ads are like 9 months.
The price reflects the condition of the car. Not like some rust buckets I've seen that some dude wants 10+ grand. Sao is not a Ghia Guru (like Loren, Ghia Girl, Rockstock, Aerosilver, Retrowagen, and John Moxon whom I will say are wonderful and very helpful people) that knows every Ghia part that started and stopped production. So maybe a quote on the "Overpriced Ghias" would have been better to say "Vin # shows '59 but the nose looks to be a 55-57". And btw, Sao has the body badge. Cheers! _________________

I don't think the price is too high. I sold a 57 Ghia for $3500 two years ago that was in worse shape. It would help if the seller provided a few more pictures, especially a pic of all the parts that go with the car (laid out in the driveway is nice). I always find it helpful when the seller uploads the maximum number of photos when selling a car on the Samba, because why not, it doesn't cost any more. Might help to delete the blurry photo too. |
