Why not rebuild it yourself?

What part of the longblock broke? Is the whole lower end just clapped out? If it has good compression & end play it might not need to be completely replaced. Just remove & refresh!

I read your first two threads did you follow up on either? Back to long block you can go cheap and buy something off craigslist or go with a known builder. But actually there’s plenty of people building engines at home that are just as nice but cost less because they don’t have the overhead of running a business. I’d contact one of the VW clubs in Tennessee and ask around probably many choices close to home.

The heads are shot, the case is cracked, and one of the pistons is broken. Basically the engine just decided to crap out hard and fast. Much like many of the Subarus I see lol.

For reference, when I rebuilt my own 1600cc DP engine in 2016-2017, I spent $1500.

Local machining of case and heads was $640 which included them supplying the bearings. I bought new Moresa pistons and cylinders, and a Maxi2 oil pump/filter.

This I’ll always endorse and it turned out well he drives It still. Very Happy I’ve built a couple myself it ain’t hard. The second cheapest way out network with local VW people, join a club. People that live in apartments have done this on kitchen table.
Even this old car was made good again 😀
