|
|
A new Vanagon get-together is scheduled for Sunday, October 25th. Our scouting mission last weekend found several potential venues, but exactly which one is not determined yet.
You can put this on your calendar NOW.
Location: Mission Viejo / Dana Point / San Clemente area.
Date: Sunday, October 25th
Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM
We will make at least one more scouting trip to pick the exact location before announcing it. Mostly to determine if there's good likelihood of getting a group of parking spaces in one area of the parking lot to gather.
The location will be a park, or a beach in the general area.
Revenue priorities:
1. Bathrooms
2. Nice, scenic location
3. Low or no cost parking (Cost likely between $5-$10)
4. Pet-friendly
5. Walk to nearby food options
We might not be able to have all of these items fulfilled.
The region was selected to be close enough to attract Vanagon owners from the LA and San Diego areas. Those in Orange County benefit from being the closest!
How fare is this area from....?
(Give or take about 5 miles depending on the ultimate venue.)
- Oceanside: 28 miles
- Anaheim: 34 miles
- Long Beach: 42 miles
- Escondido 46 miles
- Riverside: 58 miles
- Central San Diego: 65 miles
- Santa Monica: 72 miles
Event name? None, at least none yet. Something might come to me.
Agenda? None really - just an opportunity to hang out and talk and se each other's vans.
Registration? None - please tell me if you're planning to attend so we can know what to expect.
Cost? None - except the venue's parking fee.
What's included? Nothing. Just hang out and see some Vanagon people.
Raffle, T-Shirts, Stickers? No, no, and no.
What about COVID? Please plan on social distancing. This will be 100% outdoors, and provide plenty of room to KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. Please don't get inside anyone's van but your own and avoid touching, hugging, and kissing! Do not attend if you have any symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, diminished sense of smell. Do not attend if you are in a high-risk group with pre-existing conditions.
Exact venue will be announced by October 19th, but will be within the area described above.

So, there's two of us!
Who else is craving some socially distant Vanagon socializing?

Great markswagen, VesuveVan, shadetreemech, and WestyWanter!
May have enough vans to make this "a thing".
Who else?

"VanaGo at Dana Point" is a go! Oct 25th, 2020.
It will held at Salt Creek Beach parking lot in Dana Point. The location was selected to try to include Vanagon owners from the Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and Inland Empire areas.
This get-together is being promoted across numerous Facebook groups, TheSamba and other ways of getting the word out.
Location: Salt Creek Beach, 33333 S. Pacific Coast Hwy., Dana Point
Though the address gets you very close, the entrance to this parking lot is actually on Ritz Carlton Drive.
Once inside the parking lot, turn LEFT and go NORTH to the north corner of the parking lot near the lighthouse. This should be the least populated part of the lot and allow us space to park together.
Date: Sunday, October 25th
Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Bathrooms: One set of bathrooms at the parking area near entrance and another set down at the beach.
Parking Fee: $1.00/hour - pay at nearby kiosk that takes cards and cash. If needed, you can leave and return freely during the time you've paid for.
Pets: Pets are allowed ON LEASH in the parking area. Please be respectful of others who may be alarmed by even friendly dogs. Please don't think this isn't meant for your special dog that doesn't need a leash, or let your "leashed" dog run free dangling the leash behind.
Food Options: Best to bring your own, but there's Zack's at the beach (0.2 mile walk) with burgers, tacos, sandwiches and salads. Also the Beach Hut Deli is just beyond the edge of the parking lot, also about a 0.2 mile walk).
Beach & Park: A big green grassy park is 0.1 mile walk toward the beach and the beach is 0.2 miles, passing the park in the way. Zack's rents boogie boards, surfboards, and beach umbrellas if you want to spend time there.
Dog Park: There is a fenced, off-leash dog area 0.1 miles through the tunnel under PCH.
How far is this area from....?
- Oceanside: 30 miles
- Anaheim: 32 miles
- Long Beach: 40 miles
- Escondido 48 miles
- Riverside: 56 miles
- Central San Diego: 67 miles
- Santa Monica: 70 miles
Agenda: None - just an opportunity to hang out and talk and see each other's vans. 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Registration: None
Cost: None - except the parking fee
What's included: Nothing. Just hang out and see some Vanagon people. Raffle? No. T-Shirts? No.
Trying to keep this very simple.
What about COVID? Please plan on 6ft social distancing.
Please pass this information onto other Vanagon friends that might not get this notice.
Hope to see a bunch of you there!

I was looking forward to this, cleaning up the Van, makin' plans.
My daughter came out this morning and said her boyfriend had tested Positive for Covid-19. So, my daughter, Cindy & I all have appointments Monday to be tested.
Have a good time, ya'll.
This is the Way.
