I drove the Classic VW foliage cruise in the Hudson Valley Bear Mountain area. I pulled into the gathering lot early this morning and parked behind a show quality 1950s Beetle that was perfect in every detail. And I soon met up with Rome-Roland and looked at his car.
You can see the 50's beauty in front. My blue bug is behind and to the right. Roland's green beetle is in the background with fog lights.
I admire many photos posted here and I can't equal them. But this might be my best picture yet. Beatles lined up as far as you can see:
Driving a winding road, my wife was working the camera:

Drove 110 miles round trip to MD to get my AE case align-bored, thrust cut, and purchased some of the parts I'll need for the rebuild. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Good to meet you and your wife, Lost; and glad you had a good drive to the event and back. Here's a shot of you as I was driving past the tour group on the Palisades Parkway in New York-
First stop at the gas station by the Peekskill, NY traffic circle in Westchester County-
Heading back west on the Bear Mtn Bridge-
Harriman State Park, NY. The green hiking sign is the Appalachian Trail-
More photos of the tour in my gallery.

I made the effort to cover 90 miles today, low 40s overcast crappy looking fall weather. Funny though the more you drive this old war horse the better it runs.
This is the 2020 version of fuzzy dice, it’s a mask of course but it also resembles a G string. 😀
I’m going to roll over 100k before the new year |

Zund - is your master cylinder failing there? Looking at your brake warning light.
[EDIT] BTW, yesterday I drove 110 mile round trip in my '73 Super to a shop in MD to get the case for my '74 Super align bored. At the shop was parked a triple-white '79 convertible Super w/a factory sticker on the door dated 12/79!! So it must have been one of the *last* to roll off the assembly line. Paint was very good, top and interior excellent, but had been converted to a progressive carb. And all the exterior items had been removed because the owner is going to have it painted .... BLUE. Don't get me wrong, we can all do what we want w/our cars, they're our property. But I was still shocked that one of the last in otherwise fantastic condition was going to be modified in this way. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Nope that light has been on for 5 years at least and maybe before I had the car. I put the car back on the road towards the end of 2015 with a fresh brake job, Including new master cylinder still working great. To my way of thinking VWs logged millions of miles without these goofy lights I’ll just drive it into the ground. |

Mine actually works as designed. It started lighting up when braking during my summer road trip to Putnam Valley. The front brake switch had failed. Replacing it resolved the light coming on. _________________ Eventually, "we are what we pretend to be.’”

Zundfolge - Congrats on your upcoming 100K roll over
Vamram - Surprising, the '79 triple blacks and triple whites are desirable cars. When I was in High School, I told my father I wanted to convert his '56 Beetle to a dune buggy. He said "NO!" _________________ 1956 Beetle Ragtop: My Father's car

I am definitely doing that Hudson Valley cruise next year. It was just a bit too soon after getting my 69 road worthy. By this time next year it will be in much better shape, and I'll be more confident in it's reliability |

I read more about the 1979 triple whites. After all the decades of early prototypes in the 1930's and production to January 1980, the very last Beetle built in Germany was a triple white convertible at the Karmann factory.
That car is in the VW museum. _________________ 1956 Beetle Ragtop: My Father's car

Beautiful day so I got the bug. And went for a ride to grocery store, it’s a getter 😀 a few stops along the way, first stop for wild turkeys
Crossing the road. They are slow and you could run over them just like a guinea. City boys might be confused about this.
Next I happened upon this car show mostly all American muscle cars except this one.
Then back in the garage, tomorrow’s another day.

A beautiful red Beetle from Stuttgart, foliage, and a castle. Perfect Alex. _________________ 1956 Beetle Ragtop: My Father's car

I made it back on the road early today around sunrise.
Behind me are 100 acres of wilderness and around the sides about half that, needless to say we have herds of deer and this is the time to see them. I saw 7 in three different places on the way out. In 20 years I’ve hit 2 driving and come close more often, little bastards don’t respect right of way.
Some of the roads out here are really rough which makes you appreciate the VW suspension.
Coming upon a Corps of Engineers lake.
Fall driving low 40s temp cool crisp.
Random shot fall colors.
Coming into Tahlequah it’s the same place David Letterman thought had an unusual name. Wiki that guys name if you are under 35 and never heard of Dave. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahlequah,_Oklahoma
All pretty nice as I’m getting on down the road to home when to my surprise I ran low on fuel and then ran out and had to call AAA. They were there to help in less than an hour and gave me four full gallons free, well not free because I pay membership every year.
First speedo is me noticing I’m on reserve, then ending then starting so it’s out of sequence. I covered almost 150 miles just pissing away a Sunday morning. I’d do it again except next time I’ll leave on a full tank.😀
