… i'm originally from Jersey too - Tenafly. Back in the 70s, I had the clock in my 1950 11G rebuilt, to get it working smoothly - I brought it to a clock repair shop in town - to Otto Barowski - he took it apart, down to the tiny, tiny parts - he had it for about 3 weeks - he put it together, cleaned it well and oiled it - He told me, on a fine time-keeper all the pivot points had jewels in there for longevity and to keep it from unusual and pre-mature wear - UNFORTUNATELY, the VW clock had no jewels, but had plain-old metal on metal movement points - a VERY INFERIOR design …
… got the clock back and it worked well - now, I wish I kept it - in my current 1950 11A there is a blank pod - even more basic, which I love...
..,. Otto is still alive (I heard) and is over 100 years old now. My advice is to bring your clock to a clock repair shop or a watchmaker - VW clocks work on the same principal as any clock and any qualified repairman should be able to clean it well and reoil it...
… Does anybody, really know what time it is, anyway - have fun - z _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

While I agree with the above post, I think the challenge is finding a qualified repairman. I live in a city of about a million and there was only one clockmaker I would take clocks too, he is retired now but worked until a few years ago, well into his 80’s. He was born in Holland and trained in Switzerland and Germany, the old school way.
The rest of the guys repairing clocks and watches are hacks. So my advice is to spend the time and find someone who can do the work right the first time.

I agree with Matt. Do your homework. Clock makers are a dying breed.
Does your clock work at all? Most likely it just needs a cleaning and relube. Mine still works but I can tell that the clockwork has a fine gummy coating from the 49 year old oil. A clean and relube will require a lesser skillset than if the clock has wear that has to be repaired. Either way, do your homework on whoever you get and expect to have to ship it where ever that person is. _________________ Chris

… as mentioned - I was told, the VW clock, had no jewels, but had metal pivot points - an inferior design and that "a clock-working's are basically all the same" - a good cleaning and oil-lube is pretty essential - This was his first time working on a VW clock and that any clock shop should be able to do the work - didn't sound like homework was needed for such a rudimentary time-piece - z _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD
