My good friend (local parts guy) here in our Czech small town took me to see a T3 now available. No papers, but they say they can get veteran status thru a friend. The van is in very good shape and all original > however of course would need plenty of work.
Too bad I don't have a garage, otherwise I would buy it immediately even if only for future parts.
Any thoughts??

It has a JR engine from a golf, so could not be all original 
It is a 85/86 body (with 87+ rear hatch, so maybe the front panel was changed) so not as good for yours to be a donor

You mean, model not close enough to my 81 to serve well as a parts van?
Yeah it is an '86

Yes. You can use some body parts, interior bits and the rear suspension arms, but swapping the gearbox, the front suspension, electrics, cooling system, etc. is not a srtaight forward job.

You mean the cast iron lower arms?
Vw found out that the pressed sheet metal arms are weak and rust easily so they changed them to cast iron ( and changed all suspension parts apart the upper arm, the spring and the shocks)

Well, be prepared to fix all the bodges this van will reveal.
In just a few pics I noticed the oil pan is incorrect, so the internal oil pump pick up is wayyy wrong.
The dust plate behind the flywheel is wrong. I see a long threaded rod with nuts on both ends to bolt the transmission to engine. I would bet money they didn't put a needle bearing in the crank for the input shaft.
This thing is a pile of shit that will need TLC, better buy it very cheap, do not drive it and re-do everything. You're not gonna go far anyway with that oil pan 🤣🤣

If that van has the later style diesel Vanagon engine career bars and diesel Vanagon clutch housing, those might be of some use or value.
It looks like they haven't run the engine yet, with that incorrect oil pan? The plastic soda/pop bottle indicates they were bleeding the fuel system?
Did they bend the transmission shift linkage to accommodate the engine position? (lower)

Yeah - some very very weird things going on with this van... and I only showed you 10 fotos. Perhaps I should post some more for fun.
That shift linkage is a total mess... the fuel was running out of a plastic bottle... the fuel tank is majorly dented... there is no coolant in the tank...
Yes, incorrect oil pan.
