Has anyone had any experience with this contactless AFM from Swiss company Syncro Sweets?

It's a bit pricey, but if it cleans up some of the drivability issues related to old and deteriorating AFMs I might bite. Its certainly simpler than converting to MAF via the Pilot system which I'm not sure if anyone in the community has done or documented. Also something I'm curious about. |

I like it. Just looks more simple and price wise it's not that far off from a rebuilt AFM I think. _________________ 1988 Wolfsburg Edition - TinTop

googling around, it seems a contactless TPS sensor has a moving part and stationary part. e.g. magnets and stationary IC. Inductance between the two parts provides the contactless aspect. Another example would be a hall sensor type arrangement.

Seems that if a hall sensor could be adapted to the stock ECU, a GM type MAP sensor could also be adapted to replace the air flow sensor, discarding the trap door completely. _________________ ☮️ |

I cited "hall" as one example but will edit my post. From wikipedia:

"Modern day sensors are non contact type. These modern non contact TPS include Hall effect sensors, inductive sensors, magnetoresistive and others." _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

I'm not well versed on the ins and outs of running a MAF instead of an AFM but its my understanding that you'd need to run a signal converter to convert what the MAP puts out to values the ECU is calibrated for. The trap door and the squarish interior of the AFM doesn't scream unrestricted airflow when you could have a straight through tube.
I've heard tell of more power output with a MAF setup, or is that a fallacy? I mean it all gets converted back to values the ECU is calibrated for, it doesn't change fuel delivery that drastically does it? Or is the magic in eliminating the physical restriction limitations of the AFM where the possible slight power gains come into play? More power is fun but in the end I'm after eliminating stutters and jutters, which I've tracked down to the AFM. |

The Hall Sensor above appears to have 3 wires. I assume, ground, low volt+ and the output voltage back to the ECU. I don't see any conversion going on. I also noticed an air intake sensor that is bolted to the top right corner. I just haven't analyzed the Bosch systems enough to know what voltages they are working at.
It looks clean and appears for most to be plug and play. _________________ ☮️ |

FAS uses an adaptor from WBX air filter box to MAF. It might also serve to smooth out air flow? [edit: though there's obviously no AFM involved] From what I've read, having good laminar air flow pre MAF is important.
Just one example of contactless position sensors:

The "D" version ECU circuit board is already set up for it. It is used on the G60 supercharged version of this ECU. Bosch 2 bar pressure sensor although a 1 bar could be used.
If I remember correctly it would require removing a few resistors and of course modifying the code for the new input. |
