Is the spade connector on the bottom of the steering column tube the horn ground? Mine broke off, I still have the piece, but if it is the ground, can I just ground it elsewhere?

Yes its a path to ground and no you cant ground it elsewhere...if you plan to use the stock horn ring/button.

Without getting too "into it"...YET.... when you attach the "ground" to the column tube its technically still power and energizes the tube with voltage that is until.... the horn contact at the button/ring is pressed and completes the path to ground.

Add an eyelet to the wire and a small sheet metal screw (or bolt n nut ) through the tube...but not touching the shaft.. be sure your connections are clean and tight.

Fore more in depth horn .. search topics... but start here https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wired/wired_12_00/wired_12_00.htm

Yes all of the VW's are wired that way. Seems Backwards but when you consider if it were to short out, it just makes the horn honk, if wired with positive there would need to be another positive wire to the horn button.

Ah ok thanks! I tried soldering it back on but no dice, so I guess the ring connector and screw will work.
