The 60 was a no sale at $31,250.
I wonder if it was the color? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

The bidders did not come out for this one. Having a major holiday in the middle of the auction might not have been helpful. I expected more bidding?? _________________ Marc

Didn’t think about that. I imagine Christmas being around the corner didn’t help either.
But still, that’s a lot of money for an unrestored coupe. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Like a few others have said, it’s fun to watch the video, and I did think trylon was selling his car for a second... it’s rusty, but I get a good vibe from that low light.... kinda seems like he should keep it after all that work he did.... looks like it could use an alignment by the way his son is driving it. It’s pretty much like mine was when I got it about 10 years ago... my pans are better, but I definitely had all the nests. No reserve... will be fun to see what it goes for. |

Interesting that the junkyard king Ron sturgeon is lead bidder on the lowlight as well as the 23 window on BAT. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Ron usually only buys cars recently that need very little work. He is currently outbid. Lets see if he stays in the hunt. |

Strange why someone would add those mirrors to an otherwise pretty decent Ghia. And wouldn't it be interesting to know what would have caused someone to cut out the front sheet metal like that . But these are easily repaired.
The car has a lot of good to offer and if it were mine, I would have made a few improvements before selling. I think it would be more than recovered in the high bid. _________________ Marc

I'm wondering if it was maybe some kind of aftermarket air conditioning.
More holes under the dash that are also riveted over with the same aluminum, plus lots of extra small holes

That could explain the double pulley. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Could that be the reason for the hole in the front for the condenser radiator? _________________ It's not about the window, it's about the people.

Well, that's interesting! You'd think between then and now a new decklid script could have been fitted. Lisa, what's your take on the mirror situation? Here's a picture of Lilcar new in 1963 sent to me from her original owner.
I have listed as an option on her birth certificate M194 Additional mirror, outside right, convex. The mirror in this picture and the ones on the BAT Ghia look different, but is it possible they might have been fitted by the dealer? Just going on the location Lilcar's is mounted in this picture....and I have always wondered why it's a left hand mirror mounted and not a right.... _________________ RIP HBB (1984-2009)

The double pulley is on the lowlight.
My friend has a 74 Ghia with factory air. They mounted the radiator for the unit in front of the beam. But there were likely aftermarket AC units back in the day, so maybe someone mounted the radiator in the nose and cut that ugly ass hole for air flow. To fix that is going to require a paint job if it’s clear coated. Yikes. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Mirrors were standard by 58. I read somewhere they tossed them in the glovebox and the dealer was supposed to install them using a template.
The car on BAT has been repainted so likely some PO chose to go a different route with the mirrors, maybe he liked the look of British sports cars with the fender mounts and then discovered why they don’t use those on modern cars and put yet another mirror in a usable location? _________________ Go Reds! Exactly, and they're definitely not going to recoup the $37,400 they spent on the car in 2018 as long as that is in the state it's in. I can't see it really bidding past the mid 20's with that ugly hole in the nose. Shame because it's a very nice car otherwise. I'm guessing the seller either had too much to drink at the Gooding & Co auction, or doesn't know these cars at all. _________________ Currently own:

$37,400 in 2018! Would have been high in 2018 even if it was a Vert! And that may not include the buyers premium!! The seller at that time must have been quite pleased! I think this one might end with "Reserve not met". But we'll see? _________________ Marc
