Why didn't the outboard motor conversions catch on ? One or two of the old HVWs I bought had an article. I remember reading about them back in the early 70s.

I am an old 2 stroke motorcycle mechanic hence the interest.

I imagine they would be pretty thirsty. I’m very intrigued by that Evinrude V8 and some of the dragsters that have been built using that engine...

IMO. the cranks were not built for taking the shock loading of a clutch and a drivetrain like a car, there were meant to be put in gear and run up to speed. most boat cranks I have seen were pressed roller bearing cranks they rev good but are weak by nature. and most 2 strokes have a narrow power band, fowl plugs and suck gas.
