What am I supposed to do with this? This end appears to go to the distributor.

Return them and tell GW to actually read the SMP number before slapping their own sticker on the box, right next to said SMP number!
What you were sent were SMP 26680, for a Ford:
What you should have received is SMP 27462:

To get the right wires, look at the distributor cap to see if each post has a pin inside or not. The wires shown above are for the older style cap without the pins. The pin style wire connector is more secure and is a different set. _________________ 1987 Westfalia 2.1 WBX Manual |

something that drives me nuts with new wires.. and nearly ALL manufacturers do it-- notice the dist ends... they are straight ends in a right angle boot. miserable to seat properly, they never sit right. deep right angle plug wire ends ARE made, they are more spendy, but c'mon, use them!
one issue is VW uses a dist with a very deep socket and so a typical right angle end won't reach the pin or brass locks. maybe necessary with the higher energy systems to prevent flash over but it makes me cranky. _________________ -dan

Stop buying stuff that GoWesty slaps their name on and upcharges for. They're taking advantage of Vanagon owners and people defend them. I don't get it. _________________ 1983 Vanagon Westfalia Air-cooled

These wires have the correct 90° ends and female pin connectors for the late van coil and distributor. _________________ 1990 Orly Blue Carat |

I wasn’t aware of how good the STI wires were. I have received several sets from RMW/Van-Cafe and always keep a spare on hand. Never had any issues with them and will be sure to order that brand in the future. _________________ Driving a 90 Carat since 2014

I still use Bosch wires. They come with a lifetime guarantee which the company honors. A set usually lasts about 15 years and they replace them when I confirm they are out of spec - but you have to save your paperwork. |
