Hello Bruce. Per the, yellow, VW Without Guesswork, 1960-1970, "Clamping bolt link pin to torsion arm" 10mm bolt, the torque is 32lb/ft for a type 1 and 29-36 for the type 2.

Sorry to dig up an old post but do you guys know if there are any washers, flat and/or lock, on the nut side of the pinch bolt? I'm putting my beam back together and noticed my old hardware consists of only a nut and bolt. Intuition is telling me to put a lock washer under the nut. |

Yes, looks like they should have a split ring lock washer. #13 as shown in the obsolete parts catalog...
