Hi,
I'd like to know if barndoor busses had the inner reinforcement section under cargo doors ( between inner and outer rocker)
Any information?

I'd say no. is that old rocker pic from your bus ?
The BD single cabs had a piece of tubing/brace welded into that section, for the fuel tap extension.

Here's my 55 Baja Barndoor being repaired. I don't have an in process photo, but I believe 3 layers were installed. Inner, intermediate, and outer rockers. Not sure, however, if this was correct for the bus, or just emulating the later construction. I'd install it, nobody will see it, and VW obviously thought it was necessary, either originally, or as an upgrade.

I have no decent images of my own nor do I have the memory from the last original remaining area that Ive dealt with but Im almost positive there would be an intermediate panel on the cargo door side rocker. Its a great stiffener for a well used area.
I feel like if I had not seen one originally installed, I would not have replaced it with one.

I looked in the parts manual online for later bus, and the part number for the intermediate 211 809 591B tells me there is an A version and likely a number before that with no letter(barndoor?) Unfortunately I dont see anything listed with the same number under Barndoor parts book.

Even if it were incorrect, Id say run one as it will greatly strengthen the area. Theres a reason they would put it there.
