Its probably smaller than a boxcar. Its 8ft x 18ft. Slightly bigger than a standard UK garage.

Anything is better than working in the street.
I've still managed to do a body off resto and full repaint in there but it was rather tight. _________________ If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. |

Here's our small shop. The room where the ambulance is parked is a makeshift paint booth. Side ventilated works fine and full side lighting. Unfortunately when we are not doing much paint work it gets used for storage.
Some of the goodies we have are:
MIG & TIG welders
Metal fabrication station
TV and xBox with 11 channel surround sound
Cabinet sand blaster and outside blasting machine
Piston and screw high capacity and CFM air compressors
Almost all of the hand tools you need.
Next are a mini lathe and mill.
90 x 30 with the paint booth. It is big enough to do a full car restoration and have everything in a workable state. Right now we are rebuilding a 1990 S10, serious suspension upgrades and lower with an LS3 (~450 hp) and 6 speed automatic. Dash will be custom aluminum but tasteful for everyday driving.

My garage is open at rafters, has no collar beam, but a ridge beam. Tin roof is (was) visible, screwed directly to purlins. You will see a great heat reduction if you insulate with film directly stapled to the boards and taped off with aluminum duct tape. The sheets are 6-8 wide and rolls are available long so fewer seams. It looks like bubble wrap with a silver Mylar film over it, do whole garage for $2-300.Since doing this my shop is cooler especially by not opening the bay doors. Instead of one large fan, I put a small a/c window unit over my workspace ,and a 30 in. floor fan. Now I can stand/sit at my workbench and get blasted in the face from the window unit. |
How much did the temperature drop after you installed the silver "bubble wrap" onto your rafters? |
