Here is the complete respond I received to a specific question about replacement of worn out rack sleeves for a specific unit.

" If the play is internal to the rack it is not a big deal to repair it. All units we have part numbers associated with have an 80% chance for rebuild. "

Sounds like a company I do not like to deal with.

It really is sad.

A long time ago.....1980's to be exact.....Cardone did excellent work. They started their business based around wiper motors. Then we started seeing other electric motor based rebuilds out of them. They were only a few years old when I was in high school and got my first car (VW 411). I have bought cardone rebuilt fuel injection parts and a few calipers and hydraulic cylinders back in the day. All were top nothc.

I used to buy most of my hard to find rebuilt parts from Cardone from the BAP Geon chain. Through the 80's.....they did overall excellent work.

I started to see that change right about early 90's. My local Beck Arnley guy was starting to bitch about repeated failures. Then I saw a few D-jet MPS and sitributors...mid 90's....that came in and were not only barely rebuilt...but were not functional.

Their stuff has sucked for a long time now. I get the felling that part of it was workmanship, employee quality and management....but I am also betting a lot of it is also...the fact that for quite some time they have not been rebuilding "first go around" ....low mileage cores.

Back then...one could get away with just spending 10 minutes to solvent wash and slap new seals into a master cylinder or caliper. Now....most of the cores of items like that are so rusted or have been rebuilt so many times...that they are now out of spec....and no longer a simple rebuild....but are probably being treated that way.

It is all about money today. Really hard to find people willing to do a good. Just get the stuff done somehow. Flate-rate system in many cases does not help also.

Not quite as bad as it sounds, it might mean they fail 20% of cores sent in, which is a good thing. I know some cores I’ve sent in couldn’t be rebuilt
