|
|
Hi
This is my first post. I've been digging through thesamba.com archives but I haven't been able to find a post on this specific subject.
I have 4 wheel drum brakes and dropped spindles on the front. I bought the car as it is and I don't know how much of a drop I have with these spindles but I like the ride height right where it is now.
I want to upgrade to front discs - without spending any more money than I have to. Do I have to buy new dropped spindles or can I use the dropped spindles already on the car ?
I have seen many disc brake conversion kits on-line. Can anyone please give me first hand advice as to who I should buy from ?
Additionally, does anyone know of an internet site that I can decode my VIN to find out what year the pan is ?
Thank you for any help you can give me,
Dave |

I used the kit from CB.
Works great and was easy to install.
Don't know about pan #s, but you may try using the search. _________________

Sure... you can take a grinder to them. You can also use an adjustable wrench to assemble it. |

Did you have dropped spindles when you started ?
Did the CB kit come with dropped spindles ? |

Try the Technical tab at the top of the page...whole section on VIN Numbers. _________________ 1963 Sedan - L87 with 27,501 original miles |

You can't buy a CB kit to fit drop spindles, w/o buying the kit with the spindles. Ask me how I know.
You mightbe ahead buying a kit w/ the spindles, and then sell the ones you have now separately. The ones in the kit will be slightly different than what you have now. There are caliper mounting bosses cast into the spindle. As for anything other than CB, I can't say. _________________ '67 Sunroof

Okay, thank you for filling me in on the CB kit and spindle issue.
You'd think someone would offer a kit to retrofit the drum-brake dropped spindles with new discs.. |

So you used drum brake dropped spindles and a CB disc brake conversion kit on them ?
What did you have to do to make the CB kit fit your dropped spindles ? |

Hey could you explain or show photos of how you adapted a drum drop spindle with the new CB disc brake kit? |

You cannot use drop spindles and CB front disc brakes. It won't work. I've looked many times.
From what I have found. All lowered spindle disc brake upgrades. Require a disc brake drop spindle kit. The bad news is, the width of the front end is + 1.5". _________________ I have learned over the years.
