amazing how rough it looks already. |
Seriously.
My first vehicle was a '69 Beetle which my father bought new, and gave me in 1976.
It was seven years old, and the floorboards were leaking/rusted through, and it had the typical rust in the triangle body panels behind the B pillars. Crawling underneath, it was a rusty nightmare.
These were CHEAP vehicles in every way. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

It wasn't just VWs. Most car bodies didn't last long in the rust belt.
The big innovation was bodies made from galvanized steel. It was a costly process back then, but most car bodies use it now. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Yeah, my brother's '72 Toyota Celica just about fell apart due to rust in 1982.
Ten years old, and it was GONE! (This was my second car, by the way, bought it from Bro in 1980). _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

Nice! That's Carnaby Street in London, before it was pedestrianised.
Looks a little bit different today, but still recognisable: https://goo.gl/maps/Gi6e7X1JZS6TynJE7 |
