Just noticed this!
It's just a 1/2"female pipe thread coupling made to be used in roughing in faucets in walls like old time bath tub/shower or kitchen faucets where one wants to keep everything in the same plane. For 1/2" galvanized steel pipe. I actually love this stuff, it is so durable. and you can hang stuff from it. PITA to cut and thread and you learn about makeup length where it threads into the fitting.
I have a very big old house and all the supply piping is galvanized. 104 years old and only a few failures.
