Dan,

You'd fit right in here, I suspect. Yes, this place is magic and I'm happy when people think of moving to Idaho they frequently move to Boise, which is a whopping 7.5 hours south of us.

I was recently goading a Texas buddy to finish restoring his Triumph TR4 so he can bring it with his motor coach to visit. I bragged about all the roads he could noodle around on and sent him pictures of my various cars on said roads. Though he was quick to point out some of them were from our beautiful neighbor to the north - British Columbia. Truth be told, BC is the most beautiful place I've ever visited, including Switzerland, etc.

Anyhow, it was grand up there and I included a bit of slack-jawed stupidity that would have come to light had I not gotten us out of there. I recently put new tires one size up on the beastie. An hour before we left, I thought "hmm - I wonder if my chains will fit on these new shoes?" Um, nope. So every vehicle up there was clinking around in chains and as we passed them - obviously headed outbound on a road already impassable to sane people, we drew a few frowns of concern. Passing each other was a game of chicken starting about 5 miles out as there was only a single pair of deeply rutted tracks and heavy untracked snow on each side. People seemed to settle into each of us putting our left tires in a track and then trying to maintain directional control as we passed, with only our head nods to each other with both hands on the wheel. Much fun.

you shouldn't let that much weight bear down on the roof. especially at these frigid temperatures. it's just not good for things.

and from what I've seen that's a fairly normal Lake tahoe/Truckee snow image at times.

Getting a Nor'Easter here in Pennsylvania.

Not huge amounts here, only about 8” so far, I'm told in Jersey I'm up to 17 1/2” now.

First snow for my 90 with me.

This is what driving in a Canadian winter looks like. Halifax to Winnipeg. So much salt!

Longtime lurker, finally being drawn out of obscurity.

Love this thread. Vanagons in the snow look amazing. Very much looking forward to having my own snow-based adventure not too far in the future.

No way is Schenectady a more beautiful place than (east) Switzerland. It's not even the most beautiful place on the East Coast. Razz
