Well, I was changing my bearings and didn't realize the drivers side is left hand thread... Didn't come loose, so I put my weight into the wrench and it got very loose, in a bad way. Had to cut it off. That's when I realized my mistake 
So the inner nut sort of survived, but was galled pretty bad because it chased the galled threads of the spindle. I think I can salvage the spindle with a universal chaser my father in law has, but I am at a loss on the nuts. ISP shows them in their diagram of the spindles, but no part number listed. I think they are M16, bit I don't know the pitch (1.5 maybe?) Anyone know where these might be available in left-hand pitch? |

Your local Fastener Store should be able to order them out of their Dorman Catalog?

You could always try contacting Joel (Boo_Koo_Z) in Washington state. He might have a couple he could throw in a bubble pack envelope.

Thanks. I think they are the same as the early bugs. Based on a listing by CIP1, they show the early bug part being for 61-5 Type-3, but this was the only listing I found. It might be right, as the early T3s had the smaller spindles.
I was able to clean the threads up pretty good, after about an hour with the chaser and a small triangle file. Might not be perfect, but even if the new nuts drag a little, it shouldn't be a problem. Lesson learned: driver's side is righty loosey  Why couldn't the Germans have used a castle nut and cotter pin like everyone else? |

As far as I know, that part of the spindle didn't change thru the years. My own 65 has the later style clamp nut with a lock bolt. The problem you run into with the later style is you need the larger grease cup (for clearance). In my case, I'm running discs up front, but when I converted my 64 T-34 to discs, I ran the later style nut on it too (with the larger later cap).
I think it's the size of the nuts, washer, and grease cap as to why they didn't go with a right hand thread on the left spindle. At least they didn't do a Chrysler and use LH threaded lug bolts. Could you imagine how many drums would have been wasted by the threads being pulled out. I know a lot of Chrysler guys replaced a lot of LH threaded lug studs.

Thanks a bunch, but I think I found some at a local hardware shop. Those old hardware stores have lots of stuff hidden away. They ended up being M16 1.5 left hand jam nuts. Local place had 3 of them after blowing the dust off the drawer. Victory, after the self inflicted near disaster... |
