I have the 100mm fuel filler and had no seal. So grabbed a disposable plastic lid from some take out container that was in the recycling. The lid was more or less the exact right size/ outer diameter, so i just cut the middle out to make it a 'ring' and stuffed it into the gas cap.
Seals perfectly 1 year later. Cap spins on and off smooth as silk too.
Fairly surprised actually, it was just supposed to be temporary.

yeah, I've made my own, but then found that BUGHAUS in Tulsa sells the correct seal and bought that - i'm always on the lookout for a crummy-looking 100mm cap in thesamba classifieds, with a nice seal to use on my tanks - as a spare, for next time - have fun - z

Hi Dave,

Yes using both the cork and blue gasket is impossible - too thick as you indicate.

I carefully dissected a cap the other day, what we have is a thin gasket that allows the blue gasket to rotate. This is positioned under the blue gasket.

The combined thickness of the blue/paper-like gasket is way less than the combined thickness of both cork and blue rubber...so it should work nicely

So halfway there.

I'll report back later

JP

JPB1, thanks for the reply...so the gas caps do, in fact, come apart? I've been pulling on the corrugated piece under the cap, and on the locking tangs, to no avail...

I got mine from Valentin at rentabulli ([email protected]). He sent both cork and rubber seals!

Thanks, all, what I am trying to find out is (1) do the Oval-era caps come apart? and (2) what would make the tangs on the cap not engage the stops on the tank?

Post some pics if the insides of that thing. It would be interesting to see, and perhaps it can help others some day.

How did you end up opening it up?

Cheers!

I pried all the little corrugations inwards, taking care not to mess up the outer edge of the cap, after that, everything pretty much just came apart. I'll try to get some photos later..

There was a lot more in there than I thought there would be...

The tangs or the tank are tweaked?

The tangs look tweaked in your pic above, don't they usually go straight outward?

Different cap but maybe same idea

yes, the tangs are tweaked, that is why I chose this one to dissect this one. There isn't much to the little stop on the neck of the tank, so having the tangs at the right place is important..
