I wonder how slow both the Barndoor and the Split Bug were towing those trailers... |
at the time the max speed for towing a trailer was 80km/h or 50 miles. i think they probably got close to that on the flat. wind was definitely not their friend. _________________ regards

interesting details on the bus. First I thought it has coachbuilt skylights but I guess its only a lot of feet on the HD roof rack. Also interesting. the bus has DLX beltline trim but only 11 windows, so not a factory DLX. I wonder if this was maybe a pro built camper. it reminds me of the yellow/black early Westy camper. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

They are different buses.
The shiny yellow and black bus I believe was turned into a Westy in the late 60ies possibly for the 125th anniversary of Westfalia and to go into their museum. It might have been inspired from those photos. |

that sounds plausible !
the BD Westy in the new picture doesn't look too accurate in some details. it also appears to have 15" wheels.
but that doesn't imply that the bus on the kdfwagen.de pics isn't the same as the one in the camper corral. the roof racks look amazingly similar. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !
