If you still have your trusty Dometic, you could accomplish the same thing by wrapping the copper tubing around the exhaust and then plumbing to wherever. Since it's so close, a tank under the sink would be easy.
The advantage to this would be that you'd have hot water even when the engine was cold, as long as the Dometic pilot was lighted.

Californio, did you see this post? http://www.griffco.ca/VW/fridgeheat.htm
It has been done, but was not as easy as one might expect. _________________ '88 VW Westfalia

Thanks! No, I hadn't seen that, and you're right, looks pretty involved. Like so many things going from concept to execution. |

Kind of on a tangent here, but the thought of a custom center consol ( fixed to the floor) with a heater coolant line run through the floor to a copper tube exchanger in its base has been on my mind. A warming drawer in the bottom for a hot meal when you arrive at your destination. Or a mug warmer cup holder? Heck, if one was to get fancy you could souve while driving. If it involved some stone or similar thermal mass maybe my lunch wouldn't be frozen by mid day. |
