ID 64mm
height 77 mm
OD 70mm
those are approximate, within +/- a mm
the cut out is about 49mm wide and 45mm tall
note: the ball joint stem will pass thru the hole a bit, but i have other pates with holes in them to make it work.
the ID is like a mm bigger than the OD of the ball joint. seeing i was a bit short on pipe you can see where i ground out the upper part to clear the knuckle. in a perfect world i would have added another 1/2-3/4 of an inch but it works just fine _________________

in April/May i'm going to need this tool. i hope to never need it again, but quality ball joints, even when quality, aren't so quality.
and so it goes. poo-tweet. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL Camper

i've ordered two TRW ball joints from those Latvian eBay rascals that have all the good parts. $32 each post paid. we'll see if i was resourceful or not. could NOT find any stateside with the cast bottom aka Lemforder or TRW.
i need a ball joint in hand to do some hardware store cruising... Schedule 40 and 80 2" black iron pipe looks promising. maybe weld a 40 and an 80 together for the different diameters.
they're on the same slow boat that my fuse block connectors traveled over on, but at least THOSE are in San Francisco port of entry now. _________________ -dan

Don't rule out a short piece of exhaust tubing No nee4d for a cut out, it is thin enough . I use an arbor press.

Here is my attempt at taking some pictures with splits on almost every finger tip. Not as easy as I thought it would be.
Overall length.
Outer.
Thicker inner.
Thinner inner.
This one might help too.
Do notice I held a few of those measurements at an inch. Hope it helps.
Dabaron, I have the tool and press and I'm not far. Feel free to get in touch when its time. I also posted some pictures on this thread, end of page one. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0 _________________ '86 2wd Poptop transplant

Here are the dimensions using a caliper. I did my best to get it centered.
Here are the thin side.
And I think Skills is correct that the cut out is important too.
Here is the cut out.
I'll double check that I got the pictures under the correct locations. _________________ '86 2wd Poptop transplant

this will be my attempt at tool 3051.. exhaust tubing another member had tried and it worked. i'm hopeful it will clear everything it needs to without the cut away.
will exhaust tubing be strong enough to press it in? we'll see! with a straight on push in the press it might.
