Can anyone help with some handbrake details and info?

Does anyone know if this is an early handbrake?

Can anyone help with info on the chassis mounting bracket? If anyone does repo, has one forsale, or measurements to make one?

looks like a split bug unit. at least the ratchet part is 90degrees off. probably would place the handle too much to the front and close to the floor in a BD bus.
I think very early (short) handles might be the same between split bug and BD.

Sam you need to mention your year. Your 54 needs a Barndoor handbrake but there are two Bd handbrakes. Early (possibly same as beetle) and late. Yours is late Barndoor. See Tommy’s site http://barndoor.dk Details for the differences.

Here is a comparison of few hand brakes I have.

Early split/oval handbrake is the same length as pre January 53 Barndoor. The difference is the end lever welded with different angle. Here is a hand made plan of this lever for anyone needing to convert a Bug to an early pre 53 Barndoor.

Then, on Jan 2/1953 came the longer lever (but straight) one in the 3rd position in the picture.

Afterwards (possibly post Barndoor, I’m not sure), came the one in the right, with “angled” hand grip.

Enclosed are more details of the pre 53 lever for those in need to repro them.
