The 1958 parts book says it's for all Barndoor Panelvans, through 2/1955

This was a surprise to me as I've seen Barndoor Panels with external door handles.
I guess it's possible they were upgraded over time as the handle is superior.

Ok, thank you Everett! i Didn't know that, i've also seen panels with the doorhandle but maybe they were modified indeed, as option in the dealership for those who needed to open the cargodoors verry often(thinking about the milkdelivery vans or things like that) or maybe in the garage after they lost the key several times:-) Always taking out that key would be anoying i think. now these days we see it as nostalgic offcorse:-)

Today a new track to folow,

By accident found another picture of the van. It's the same one as in the article but just bigger, I've contacted the guy who posted it to find out where he found the picture.

Is there any 'kiwi'? Who had found the article mensioned on the first page of this topic? I would love to see that, even if it was not the same van maybe, then I can close that track..

Thanks folks!

I've only seen that article reprinted/reposted but the last line of the article mentions the owner talking about taking the van to Italy. Might be worth looking there, good luck...

I put a handle on my barndoor, and it is not a simple bolt on. There is an extra inner structure on panel doors so that the church key holds in place when the latch is open. I had to grind a bunch of material off of the door handle to make it work.

Interesting, the Kombi above at "Vacation Caravans' looks like a stretched and widened 59 my panelbeater owned for a while. 499 Ferry rd is 5min from us. Wonder if there was more than one modded back then.
