1966 deluxe question - side cargo door rods - my first bus post

Been a long time member. Posted mostly beetle questions.

Was very lucky to have purchased a 1966 13-window from a good vw friend.

Starting to work on the interior restoration. I have these rods which I believe they are called "side cargo door latch rods". I just can't seem to find where they actually go.

Any pics or good location data would be greatly appreciated.

The door rods go where the red lines are. There is one short and one long per door.

Quick followup question - Looks like they might be bolted on one end (as there is a hole) and either slip into something on the other end? Are they exposed or do they go inside of anything?
