Cleaning up my rear body mounts from my Karmann and noticed that they are numbered 1 & 2. Any info on why these would be numbered like this? Surely they’re different enough that the workers could figure out which one went where without numbers on?

Here is a thread that shows some of the various stamped numbers on the body, with a couple of body mount markings on page 6.

Our October '55 sedan has an "F" on one mount, nothing on the other. I wish I had more info to give you.....
