Here's my new toy. First VW in close to 30 years, and my first buggy. Trying to figure it all out. Titled as a 74 with a replacement VIN. Link Pin front end with 4 lug adapters. 4 lug Swingaxle rear. 1600dp with 34-pict-3

Fairly solid. A few quirks to work out.
No e-brake
Died the other day out puttin around. Wouldn't restart. Had gas. I think the alternator. Need to check the generator light wire to the alternator first. |

Wow it is clean! What are your plans for it? |
Already replaced the tractor tires in front, now I can keep it in one lane.
To do:
Check alternator
Shortened e-brake cables
Change gear oil
Replace shift coupler and shift rod bushing
Color sand and polish the paint
Widened smoothies
Drive the hell out of it |

Dead coil. Replaced with a Pertronix. Now replacing plugs. I had cleaned em up, still running rough. Should I clean the carb, or just do a full rebuild on it?
Now sorting out the new harness that was installed.

Was having a hell of a time getting the e-brake handle disconnected. Not knowing what I was up against.
I thought the original VIN was ground off, but it was just buried.
Now I need to figured out this early e-brake |

Plug looks super rich. A bunged up carb would run lean in most cases or flood out and not run at all if the float valve were to stick. I'm thinking it's more likely too much fuel pump pressure, float level too high, air cleaner too restrictive, idle mixture set wrong, something like that. While you are in there investigate the heat riser on the intake, it could be plugged and the exhaust system may not be drilled or set up for proper flow through the heat riser. They seldom are.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to check your timing too. Initial, total and vacuum advance to see that it is all working and at the right rpm. Timing can cause lots of funky issues too. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit.
