American market 68 models with manual transmissions had swing axles (autosticks and all 69 and newer American market cars had IRS), and many foreign models past 68 still used swing axles.

Last German sedan built was a 6v swing axle 1200 in ‘78. The last beetles in 2003 or so were also swing axles I believe.

My '96 has a Swing Axle with 'Z' bar. As far as I know, all the 93+ Mexican Beetles have the same set up, I'm sure the 80's Mexican do also, but I can't confirm.

Look on the internet for 1967-1968 vw bug z-bar, or check here on the Samba. It is a safety item, and not every one uses one or has them. You can remove it and install a Camber Compensator.
