I purchased HeadLight RetainerAssemblies (941-041 64.5-74) and new H4 sealed beam lenses to fit a Ghia rebuild. It has new headlight buckets welded in. I disassembled the Assembly to paint them and have looked at lots of web photos to see I have re assembled them properly. However, when I try to assemble the whole lot I find the park light connection hits , or is close to the metal assembly. Modify with an angle grinder! Does the lens holder pivot on the rear mounting assembly (because of the tension of the springs)? Also when the lens is fitted with the chrome retaining ring it seems to sit far too low in the whole assembly. Its hard to explain in words but I hope you understand what I mean.

Thank you for photos. Will print them and go to the garage to compare. I'm in trouble if the bucket is out of round!!! |

Unlikely that the bucket is out of round but if you have replaced the section around the headlight this could be out of round unless you ensure that you made it round. Still this would probably only make the chrome ring sit wonky rather than the whole headlight.
I see from your other threads that your car is a 63 model but the headlight retainer is 64.5 on. Also I am not sure where you’re Newcastle is, but if it is a RHD the US spec headlight retainer you are trying to install is not correct hit RHD headlights. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

Did this ever get resolved? Have a '71 Ghia, stock buckets, same new parts from jbugs. Headlight sitting too low. Am reverting to original light housing and adjusters. |

I've read of others trying to use reproduction headlight buckets and complaining that the are not useable. Also, keep in mind that some dealers ship the new buckets with the two spring supports bent inward. They require bending back outward to match original. Not sure if this is done for smaller shipping size or to avoid damage during shipping? _________________ Marc
