Well, they look nice. If they're anything like other repro carbs, they'll probably need a few mods to work well.

Cheers,

Paul

So far, Empi's track record is NOT getting the reproduction carbs right on the first try. Might be safer to wager your dollars at a casino.

Not to mention, that almost anyone that wants to run Solex P11 carbs is going for original or vintage look.... so why bolt on a shiny repro carb that is obviously neither?

With the aftermarket solex it would still qualify In vintage speed why ??? Because it's a copy of the original if that's the case that they can't than all the 80percent of the folks here who are running the Wolfsburg west okrasa copys would be in the same boat ....and not just that okrasa in the 60s made a 74mm crank for their 40hp okrasa kit which is rare to find we can buy a aftermarket 1600cc 74mm crank and it still can be for vintage speed .....landspeed is a very strict on rules on what can be on a correct racing engine and there rules are repops can be used as long as you have proof it was made before dec.1965 ..my point is if a very strict event would allow them why cant it here in vintage speed...trust me I get the point of original parts I'm all about keeping as much original race parts but there maybe that guy out there that don't have that 1700 just to rebuilt there original carbs and maybe those repops work for them and there build ....

Unless I'm mistaken these are not made by or advertised as EMPI brand at all. Another no-name that has yet to prove itself, but many of the no-name carbs are surprisingly good these days.

China is getting good at making carbs, I can't speak to the quality of the more complex units, but all the no name side draft carbs I've bought for vintage tractor engines over the last decade or so have been spot on. At one tenth to one twentieth the cost too.

$536 seems like a lot to gamble when you can get a used set for not much more. Here's a decent looking used set with manifolds for $500.

I'd rather gamble with a set of OG carbs, than an unproven knock off that you may never get to run right. Empi copied the Dellorto DRLA, and while they appear nice, they are plagued with little things that keep them from performing well. The Solex are a bit more fussy to tune than the Dells, so I'd take a hard pass.

Reminds me of a bunch of kids (me included) Embarassed Razz

"you go first..."
"no, YOU go first..."
"I'm not going in first..."

A friend of mine bought 4 of those Chinese IDF being sold on ebay (I assume the HPMX copy, but who really knows) he plans on putting them atop a Big Block Chevy project. I predict rough seas ahead...

porsche 912 people say 2 things. 1 guy says they are working fine on his 912. another says they are likely the ones John Benton had been working on but stopped (shop fire? and manufacturer didn't want to make some changes, I don't know what) anyways at the prices they are being offered, someone tooled up for these in a pretty big way. I would bet we see more and more of these used and more reviews in the near future

Oddly enough Mr benton posted on his insta about having a set of repros getting their final touches before starting mass production but this was some time at the beginning of the pandemic. He might have them for the market after the pandemic.
